Mary Hoffman, Speaker at May Meeting
Mary Hoffman will be the speaker at the meeting on May 9.
Drawing and painting since the age of three, Mary knew without a doubt that when she grew up, she’d be a professional artist. As her artistic skills developed over the years, she became best known for her portraiture. Portrait commissions helped finance her college studies at The Cleveland Institute of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, where she earned her BFA in 1989.
Soon after graduating, Mary entered several juried fine art shows and exhibits, where she earned the “Best of Show” title as well as many “Third Place” and “Honorable Mention” ribbons. These shows launched her artistic journey to the Southeast, where Mary taught Life Drawing, Portrait Painting and Basic Drawing classes a few weeks of the year and continued her portrait business.
For the past 25 years CEO’s, major universities, notable actresses, professional athletes and collectors from all over the world have commissioned Mary for her elegant oil paintings and charcoal portraiture.
But in 2005 new life was breathed into her artistic abilities after she attended her first plein air landscape painting workshop. The plein air addiction enhanced the painting experience for Mary in every way.
Today, Mary enjoys combining her love of the portrait and figure with painting plein air landscapes. She travels and paints all over the United States.
Perspective Gallery News
We had an interesting month of April at the gallery. We finished with the last two days with great sales.
Kathy Clark had a fabulous artist of the month reception with over 70 guests visiting the gallery. It was a beautiful afternoon, Kathy was elegant and gracious with all of her guests, and she had some great sales. We are looking forward to Judy Walters being back in SC after her winter in Florida. We have missed her.
Jim Rowe is slowing getting back in action after his mini health crisis . We are glad to hear he is getting better, as we missed him.
We are now entering our fifth year at Perspective Gallery! Its hard to believe as it has flown by!
The steering committee and I are very happy that we have had such great wonderful artists. Some have come and gone, but for those who signed on the dotted line in May of 2017, we cannot thank you enough for the great 5 years! Those who have been with us since the opening are Gloria Smith, Jim Rowe, Kathy Clark, Becky Taylor, Michael Kennedy and Rose Smith.
See you at soon!
