Mt Pleasant Artist Guild
About the Guild
The Mount Pleasant Artists Guild is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization and is registered with the State of South Carolina as a charitable organization. The Guild is involved in community outreach with a scholarship fund for young artists and community events with exhibitions through established vendors as well as their own gallery, Perspective Gallery.
The Mount Pleasant Artists Guild was organized in 1996 by a small group of local artists. The Guild provides a forum for artists to meet, study and exhibit together. Since 1996 the Guild has grown to a membership of over 100 artists. Members are offered the opportunity to learn from accomplished professional artists and to exhibit their artwork at organized events.
The Guild is an active organization. Members are encouraged to sign up for committees and special activities. There are Wednesday and Thursday painting groups where members get together to paint and get to know each other. The first half hour off every meeting is set aside for socializing, and there is an annual holiday party in December.
New members are always welcome, including beginning art students. Membership is open to artists who create paintings, drawings, sculptures, printmaking, photography and fine craft. To maintain active membership, it is necessary to pay the annual dues, attend two regular meetings and be at least 18 years old. Meetings are usually held the second Monday of the month (September through May). No meetings are held June through August. Members receive a monthly newsletter, a membership directory (emailed as a PDF document), as well as discounts at select local businesses. Dues are $45 per year.
There are several events throughout the year in which members, in good standing, have an opportunity to exhibit their work. These include the Mount Pleasant Arts Festival and the Blessing of the Fleet.
In 2017 the Guild opened The Perspective Gallery in the Crickentree Center to display and sell the artwork of participating members to the community. Teaching workshops are frequently available in the Gallery.
