Exhibiting Artists

Helli Luck

Born and raised in London, I was exposed to great art from a very young age. I spent a lot of time in cities all over Europe visiting museums and studying the old masters. My favorite experience was looking at the impressionists at the Musee d'Orsay in Paris. I was priveleged to have my work exhibited in the mall galleries near Buckingham Palace. Imagine the thrill of a 14 year old seeing her work travel Europe as this exhibit did in 1972. As an 18 year old aspiring artist I studied Graphic Design at Saint Martin's School of Art. Upon graduating with honors I formed D&H Advertising and was fortunate to work with Saatchi and Saatchi as an Art Director. I was responsible for several major accounts including British Airways, Toshiba, Garuda Airlines, Riva Boats and Gucci. My travels took me to Sydney, Hong Kong and across Europe exposing me further to the fabulous world of art. Through the years my library shelves have become lined with the written works of artist like Sargent, Sorolla, Zorn and Monet that continue to inspire me. I am on a wonderful journey of learning and evolving and have studied with some of the greatest artists/teachers such as Quang Ho, Ron Hicks , Daniel Keys and Nancy Guzick. I have always loved painting "en plein air" using sketches as inspiration back in the studio. I am most passionate about painting from the model trying to capture the mood of the moment. I am a member of the Impressionist Society and have been chosen to be part of the exhibition several time including being honored with an award from Kevin MacPherson.

Betsy Jones McDonald

Betsy Jones McDonald has loved painting and drawing as long as she can remember.  Her first artistic training was with artist, Geri Davis of Columbus, Georgia while still in high school.  Betsy went on to study fine art at Columbus State University. Her eye for design was put to work as a design manager in her years working in advertising and visual merchandising. In the early 1990's, she began doing murals for schools, businesses and private residences around Columbia, S.C., which is when McDonald realized her true love lay in large-format painting. She’s pursued oil-on-canvas as her preferred medium ever since.  She paints using only the primary colors, (red, yellow and blue), along with white, and custom mixes all of the colors in her paintings.   Betsy, along with artist, Jim Nelson, founded  Island Art Gallery in 2009.  The gallery, although, no longer owned by McDonald, is still open Monday- Saturday and McDonald regularly teaches "Color Theory Workshops" there.  You can find her paintings exhibited at Perspective Gallery in Mt. Pleasant, Island Art Gallery in Pawleys Island, S.C. and Brookgreen Gardens in Murrels Inlet, S.C.

Jeanne ONeal

I was flattered when my former college asked me to teach Illustration. I did that for several years and eventually taught art to elementary and high school kids in the small town where I was living at that time. I truly enjoyed that experience.

Computer art came along and shortened my illustration career. I painted murals on motorcycles. Many of the bikes I painted were featured in shows and often they won awards. Animals were the favorite subjects for most bike owners. Dragons, wolves and eagles adorned most of those motorcycles.

When I changed my career to creating fine art, I decided to continue with wildlife. I have painted leopards and cheetahs as well as lions, tigers and bears. When I moved to the low country, I discovered the world of birds. Herons and egrets of all sizes and colors. In the low country, these birds are everywhere…even in my backyard. So, I have taken and borrowed photos of birds eating, swimming, wading and flying. Using photos as reference gives my birds proper stature and realistic features.
